Writing more readable reports
HM Inspectorate of Probation approached Clarity in 2009 to help them to improve the readability of reports on treatment of offenders that they regularly publish for ministers and the wider public. We began by editing a report and went on to conduct writing workshops with the senior inspection teams.
HMIP’s Chief Inspector Andrew Bridges said:
“We chose Clarity because it was clear they would not just come and tell us their ‘correct’ solution. Instead they took some trouble to understand what we are trying to achieve, and then discussed with us the possible ways we could improve.
Because they engaged with us in a proper dialogue, and worked co-operatively rather than didactically, we found them very helpful indeed. We consider that we have improved many of the ways that we write — but that is for others to judge!”
